The McHenry House

This Sunday our family drove over to tour this interesting house.
The McHenry House was built in 1885. It is owned and maintained by the Crawford County Historical Society and appropriated as a museum with Crawford County Memoriabilia, including the Academy Award won by Donna Reed for her performance in "From Here to Eternity." It is located at the corner of 15th Street and 1st Avenue North in Denison. Tours are available to the public on Sunday and Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment, Memorial Day to Labor Day. West Parlor or Drawing Room, features the original fireplace and mirror, brass chandelier, and parquet wood floor. Donna Reed's Oscar is also on display.Bedroom features a bedroom set of Birdseye Maple with Chiffonrobe. This room was originally the dining room that had a built in buzzer system to the kitchen for summoning servants (info courtesy of denisonia.com).
