So dreamy.
This just reminds me of quiet summer days, when the world is so warm that work seems only relatively important, and in the sun, the colors of everything seem to be melted a bit and warmed through. These are good days to spend with Eddie and take long, long walks and hang laundry on the clothes line and never think about wearing shoes.

This reminds me of those scenes from 'the Sound of Music' (the first one being when Maria arrived at the house/was dancing/singing down the avenue and the second when she had made all of those clothes for the children of of the curtains and the were going out for their picnic: that sounds pretty good right now, the weather people are talking about snow flurries for tonight and I cannot stop dreaming of spring and summer).

Another summer image. As a little kid one of the best things in the world was when the dandelions came in full force (actually it still is: I'm keeping a weather eye out for them). We never, ever spray them, how insulting. I love to look at the happy little flowers and their seedy-ghosts. I don't like them taking up residence in my vegetable beds, but that's what weeding was invented for. Besides, crab grass is much, much more of a pain to get rid of.

Custom Request+Flowers I love

I composed this bouquet as a custom order in my shop (www.thegildedbee.etsy.com)
I adore the way it turned out--it's just very pretty, like candy.

It's made of golden yellow/bubble gum pink daffodils, butter yellow primroses, strawberry pink forget-me-nots, baby blue forget-me-nots, and pale robins egg forget-me-nots.

Tied off with a nice swath of satin ribbon. :)

They also requested a card... so I made one that I thought would be nice with the flowers.

How adorable are these vintage buttons??? They're about 3/8'' in diameter, and have little scalloped edges. I was hunting around for pics for todays post and these were perfect. And then I decided that I just had to have them. The packaging was definitely about 35% of the reason that I wanted them (yes, I'm a sucker for lovely packaging: it really matters how things are presented). They will live on my inspiration board for a little while before being used.

I love this idea. I'm a creative craft junkie, and I'm crazy for gift wrap. This is from a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine of the past if I don't miss my guess. It's an article on making custom gift wrap. Sweet.

Imagine walking down this path with the birds chirping and a hushed breeze brushing the tops of the trees.

I'm fanatizing of the dreamy summer day that is encapsulated in this snap shot.

I've seen these before: where you line the envelopes with a nice paper, sometimes a patterned paper. This is on my list of projects to do.

These sweets buffets are such a visual feast.

Candy makers infuse such brilliant colors and textures into their creations.

It's such a reminder of being a little kid and going into five-and-dime stores and buying penny candy (we were lucky enough to have one of those antique establishments still existing in the 90's--I still make pilgrimages over to the shop :)).

A giveaway and a gift...

After reading about Danni's (of http://ohhellofriend.blogspot.com and etsy fame) plottings of having another giveaway I petitioned her so that I might be able to participate.
I had thought about doing one on my blog, however, her blog gets a lot more traffic. Perfect.
Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun in posting these pics...

I'm one of (ten??) people w/ shops that are donating to the giveaway, and I'm excited to see the other vendors goodies. I wonder how she will mix and match these together...

I 'discovered' her blog right after Christmas.

They had been having a Christmas giveaway and it looked so cool/the prizes were wonderful.

Little pillowboxes. For the fellow members of the gift wrappers club...

I must have hit something with this color combo, because someone randomly bought these two together last night. The strawberry pink primroses are a new style. I really like them and will be making some more in lots of different colors. My little flower section gets a little picked over sometimes, and I can't seem to make enough, but that's really, really great. I go nuts if my shop sits idle for days.

Since I know that she has opened her little schtuff, I can safely post these pics.

I had been telling her about the valentines tea party I was hosting for my sisters+cronies (for the inside scoop on that little fete: http://labeebonvivant.blogspot.com/ + http://labeebonvivant.blogspot.com/2009/02/valentine-tea-party.html there are more recipes from the party which follow this post), and so I thought, hey, I'm mailing the prize goods in today, why not plan to send some tea party along with. Suprises are the best. :)

I tacked some of those new primroses to the chocolate and liked the effect, so I took a picture.

Even to this day, unless the gift is outrageously spectacular, the packaging is at least 50% of the overall pleasure of a gift. This past Christmas+my birthday (Dec 12--super close to Christmas, but far enough away that we squeak in a good fete that isn't absorbed by other festivities), I was allowed to choose many of my own gifts (a nice coat, goodies from etsy, yes, it was a delightful treat), and as they came in the mail, I wrapped them anyway, and enjoyed just looking at them.

The wrap made even stuff that I was already aware of, more thrilling.

I love wrap.

I have a spool of this wide cotton-ish dotted ribbon that sat in my drawer forever. I wasn't quite sure what to do with it, but as I started to play with it (this adult never outgrew playing with toys, I think that I just got bigger...) I hit on this use. I wrapped a little box of tea w/ brown mailing paper (I always, always, keep a big fat roll of brown mailing paper and white paper [I get them from my local newspaper office, they are leftover from the weeks printing, and come on a really wide roll, and are fantastic for hand printing your own wrapping paper]) and then some of the dot ribbon+some white satin+some primroses+tag+more ribbon. I have had that tiny piece of striped ribbon for some time, (I never throw stuff away, and labeled bins and drawers are the only thing that separates me from a bonified packrat) for just the right package.

This was the right package.

I wandered over to this blog from ohhellofriend.blogspot last night.
I probably spent 2 hours looking through the whole blog.
It's definitely a keeper. Her photo styling is lovely. So I thought I would post a few of her pics.
She definitely qualifies under all of the 'Tuesday requirements' (designer-photographer-artist)

10 Things to do...

Hmm, what a weekend.
I'm so tired <:)
I've been on the computer so long,
I think my neck and my arms have gone into locked positions,
I need to do something else for a little bit...

Here is my list of 10 things to do that aren't on the computer:

*1. take my dog for a walk
*****Done, Eddie was bouncing off the walls, it has been so cold/blizzardy that we haven't been out in days.

*2. Make bread
*****I'm just putting it in the oven...

*3. sew something

*4. wrap a gift
*****Done, in lavender tissue, for my sisters birthday

*5. read a magazine
*****I read through my new M.S.Living/Valentine issue,
I should make a project out of it

*6. paint something

*7. write a thank you note

*8. make something beautiful

*9. do a sketch
*****Done (yesterday) I'm preparing to overhaul my sewing area and was making some layout sketches.

*10. watch or read something funny
*****Done, I watched some episodes of 'I love Lucy' and a British Comedy.

The Martin House at Christmas Time

We went to one of my favorite haunts after tea at the Martin House, namely Bonnesens.
I have mentioned it before. It's a five and dime store that I have been going to since I was a little kid. And I still anticipate everytime I go. We were doing a little Christmas shopping just before they closed, and it started snowing. As in Christmas movie snowing, big flakes, falling at just the right rate, as though they were cued to be picturesque for that moment in time.
I took this picture of the main street in Atlantic, IA (which is, of course, where the Martin House and Bonnesens are located), I love the decorations that they put up. My picture doesn't do them justice, there are lights on every tree and in the park at the end of the street.
It looked so very festive.

My flash wouldn't cooperate with me so my pics are a little dark.

The Martin House is a second empire Victorian that has been converted into a Bed and Breakfast/restaurant. We go there every year for tea+desserts (you should hear the list of desserts, it makes me want to create new cheesecakes) and to see the Christmas decorations, which are never the same two years in a row.

This is the view looking into the front parlor.

I'm obsessed with the opulence of this era.

The light fixtures are amazing. They have come from several counries, including Austria and Paris, France.

I wonder if I have room for one somewhere in my house?

We went again on New Years Day.

It was very nice to sit in the front parlor on the pink velvet couch and just watch the fire in the fire place.

What a house.

White tree a la upstairs

This is the tree that I set up in my room:

White, faux, like a canvas, open to over the top color or a minimalist palette.

I chose to decorate it with glittered ornaments, sugared fruits, lots of new and vintage millinery flowers, little glittered birds and silver tinsel.

This is the tree for the living room: It is a fir tree (live).

Our house cats favor the real trees over the faux ones. Gives the house that good wild, woodsy feeling.

I decorated this one in red and gold glass ornaments, jingle bells, vintage postcards, and paper cones filled with chocolates. And of course loads of tinsel.

Ornaments for the white tree...

I like the sound and feel of glass ornaments.

I used some gorgeous glitter to make tiny stripes on these. It is a mix of different sizes of silver and teal glitter and silver stars.I made these to satisfy the days quota of whimsical needs.

Some more elegant little orbs I glittered. These three that I have glittered started out as basic round silver ornaments.

These are so festive.

Normally I wouldn't 'go' for these as they get a little lost in a green tree, however, I have a large solid white tree...

Voila! Little statement ornaments.
